Promotion of the book "Mind the Gap: Život između bioumjetnosti, ekološke umjetnosti i post-interneta"
Author Elena Giulia Rossi
published by Atelje A22
Atelje A22 is please to present "Mind the Gap: Život između bioumjetnosti, ekološke umjetnosti i post-Interneta". The presentation will be held on Thursday, July 4, at the Miodrag Dado Đurić Gallery in Cetinje, beginning at 7:00 PM.
The book will be discussed by art historians Mirjana Dabović Pejović and Ljiljana Karadžić, art historian and curator Dobrila Denegri, and artist Viktorija Vesna. The audience will also have the opportunity to attend an open dialogue with the author and speakers on the themes of art and new technologies.
First published in 2020 (Postmediabooks, Milan) and subsequently reissued, “Mind the Gap” explores the epochal transformations brought about by the information age. The text moves at the intersection of science, art, and technology, addressing new artistic media including nano art, bio art, meteorological and ecological art, and internet art, while also examining issues of archives and language.
Rossi introduces readers to the latest currents in contemporary art, highlighting key aspects and experiments previously overlooked but crucial to the development of what we now recognize as new media art. Her research is grounded in the fusion of artistic experiences and experiments interwoven with science and technology, constructing a semiotics that transcends the field of signs and symbols.
The book addresses ethical questions arising from the convergence of art and biology, data visualization in the context of climate change, and the impact of blockchain and Bitcoin on identity. Rossi analyzes the political power of art through institutional and media channels, emphasizing the significance of the “gap” not as a void, but as a connection between things that often escapes our attention.
As noted by the owner of the publishing house, Milica Janković, “Mind the Gap” is not intended solely for artists and art theorists, but for all readers open to reexamining their relationship with life and technology. Moreover, the book introduces the latest perspectives and tendencies in contemporary art and could be considered essential reading for cultural institutions themselves.
By publishing the translation of this book, Atelje A22 takes a step toward enriching the Montenegrin and regional literary and scholarly landscape. We expect “Mind the Gap” to provide insight into new directions in art and a deeper understanding of the horizons offered by emerging artistic languages.
